The Author’s contribution & valuable thoughts on this subject would be an asset for the construction Industry.

The Chapter cover the conventional & Proprietary System. The Subject includes the Material

used, Types of formworks & the Solutions for various uses – which covers the type,

specifications & advantages of formworks according to the nature of construction work.

In general, the structure collapse during construction, at the time of removal of shuttering or

there after due to lack of proper design & supervision of formwork. To mitigate these –

problems the author has added “Safety Measures” & the deficiencies in designing leading to

formwork failure.

Further Chapter on policy for safe scaffold erection & use as wall as quality assurance not

quality control is a remarkable contribution & back bone for the formwork.

In the last the list of formwork manufactures given need to be deleted in the interest of

transparency of this document. Apart from above, “ Monolithic formwork” is added for consideration of the committee.

Any structure, multi-storeyed or otherwise is designed with a certain amount of structural concrete, which are the walls, columns, beams and slabs, also these structures would then have other features which would be decorative/ architectural in function such are architectural projections, cornices, planters, curved beams and other features. The challenge has been the ability of the formwork system to form all the features, structural and architectural, in one operation at a reasonable cost.
